​My name is Dave Seaney. I am a playing card collector that also loves history and genealogy. I have combined all of these interests to research and write stories about playing cards and the people involved.​ I now refer to myself as a "Playing Cardologist".

This research grew out of something I noticed when researching one of my stories. It was then I noticed that there were symbols on the hilt of the sword of the King of Hearts and they would change with the card maker. I refer to them as a maker's mark. 

This site is about what I found and the connections I uncovered. I hope it is of interest and help to you.

I know this website's information is not perfect. I would have to see every brand of every company that made cards between 1865 and 1920 to be accurate. But, I believe it is the best information about this subject at this moment in time. So, if you have any information or photos of decks that can make this website better please contact me as I see this site as a work in progress.
